Tuesday 22 October @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm

Silhouette of Man Walking Near the Ocean

The Four Immeasurable Attitudes are so called because we practice them to generate equanimity, loving kindness, compassion, and joy towards immeasurable sentient beings, including ourselves. Their benefits are extensive for ourselves and for our community.

May all sentient beings have happiness and its causes,
May all sentient beings be free of suffering and its causes,
May all sentient beings never be separated from happiness than knows no suffering,
May all sentient beings abide in equanimity, free of bias, attachment and anger.

While it’s easy to recite the words, how can we develop and sustain this practice so we experience all the richness, peace and happiness these positive minds have to offer? It is the path of understanding these thoughts, meditation work on the cushion/chair, and being mindful in how we apply them in daily life.

The course is five classes. Each class includes an overview, a meditation to develop mindful awareness, discussion to understand the Four Immeasurable Attitudes and how they work together, meditation on the specific Immeasurable Attitude for that week, and their application in daily life.

The course is suitable for beginners to experienced, Buddhist and non-Buddhist, with each class not requiring previous attendance. A handbook is provided for all participants whenever they join for the first time.

“The real practice of Dharma, the real meditation, is never to harm others. This protects our own peace of mind and that of other beings. This is the true religious practice; it brings benefits to both others and ourselves.”

– Lama Zopa Rinpoche

“Live with compassion. Work with compassion. Die with compassion. Meditate with compassion. Enjoy with compassion. When problems come, experience them with compassion.”
