(HYBRID) Key Buddhist principles to help us live with an open heart and a clear mind. Buddha’s teachings offer a profound yet practical approach to daily life, taking the very essence of our unique potential to make our lives most meaningful and satisfying.

What is our potential as human beings? And if we all have a potential for buddhahood, how can we go about developing it? How do we incorporate โ€˜easternโ€™ ideas of karma and reincarnation without being superstitious? And how can we develop compassion and care in a world riven by strife and distraction?

The Buddhaโ€™s wisdom is extremely practical โ€“ and you donโ€™t need to be a Buddhist to benefit! Discover how to integrate the Buddhaโ€™s wisdom into our hectic daily lifestyle, and find an authentic spiritual path that is relevant to your own experience. Then learn how to put it all together into an effective and stable daily practice.

Each class includes a presentation on key elements of Buddhist philosophy, and how they relate to modern life as well as enhancing the richness of our inner world. There will be short meditations and opportunities to ask questions.

Topics include:

  • How to integrate Buddhaโ€™s wisdom into our hectic daily life
  • Setting up a daily meditation practice
  • Our nature, Buddha nature, and our potential for transformation
  • Exploring the case for and against reincarnation
  • How karma works (and what we can do about it!)
  • The importance of using reasoning and logic rather than blind faith
  • Self-esteem and appreciating the value of our human life
  • How to prepare for death and help others (including our pets) as well
  • Cultivating happiness by uprooting the causes of suffering
  • How mantras and ritual enhance our inner experience and support realisations

While the classes in this course are sequential, each class is a stand-alone topic, so you are most welcome to drop in at any time, even if the course has already started.

โ€œI hope that you understand what the word โ€˜spiritualโ€™ really means. It means to search for โ€“ to investigate โ€“ the true nature of the mind. Thereโ€™s nothing spiritual outside. My rosary isnโ€™t spiritual; my robes arenโ€™t spiritual. Spiritual means the mind and spiritual people are those who seek its nature.โ€
