Annual Fire Purification Puja

(IN-PERSON) This burning ritual is a a way to actively let go of negativity and begin againโwith clarity and a renewed altruistic determination. Simple in form yet vast in effect, the Dorje Khadro Burning Puja offers a chance to release long-held guilts and regrets, purify karmic bonds, reconnect with wisdom, and move forward with fresh energy and purpose.
This practice is treasured within the FPMT lineage and known as a โgolden Dharma,โ was one of Lama Tsongkhapaโs heart practices and is praised for its extraordinary effectiveness.
After setting our motivation we spend some time writing down any illnesses, disturbing emotions, regrets, fears and anxieties on little pieces of paper.
During the ritual, Dorje Khadro (Vajradaka) is visualized alive within a blazing fire of wisdom fire (manifesting on our little portable BBQ!). Dorje Khadroโs blazing wisdom transforms our negative karma, emotional obstacles, illness, and inner blockages into bliss and emptiness. These are completely consumed by the fire, symbolizing deep purification at the root, not just on the surface.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche emphasized that this practice is especially potent right nowโfor clearing obstacles to our Dharma practice, repairing broken vows and samaya, and creating the best possible conditions for spiritual growth. It is also traditionally performed to benefit those who are sick, dying, or facing major life challenges, making it an act of compassion for ourselves and others.
โTo put an end to our samsaric suffering, we must do two things: One is to purify the negative actions weโve done every day of our lives and in our infinite previous lives as well. We also have to change our minds and actions and abstain from creating further negativities.โ
