The earliest technology I remember is being 8 years old and carrying the reel-to-reel tapes up the hill to Chenrezig Institute, while my mother Inta lugged the actual tape machine by hand. We began walking from Eudlo station after sleeping overnight on the floor, much to the chagrin of the stationmaster. Our sleep punctuated by the deep continuous rattle and yaw of freight trains trundling past every couple of hours. An earth-shuddering mind-shaking event that I loved.

Over a wonderful evening with delft blue table settings, flowers and flickering tea-lights, 16 wonderful, precious and most valued volunteers sat down to enjoy delicious dinner and good company over the theme “blue”. Blues ain’t blues, they are so much more; there’s blue as in azure, but there’s also blue Monday, blue note, feeling blue, grooving to the blues, having a blue, blue movies, and in our classic Aussie Yeah/Nah parlance – bluey! Over desert we filled up our Dharma Delights jars. These mystery jars, decorated with a blue sparkle, were found on each dinner plate at the start of the evening.

We’ve arrived, and yes we are safe from the recent earthquake, but there’s the inner earthquake going on. It’s a Buddha holy day, Labub Duchen, Buddha’s descent from Tushita, and we ourselves have descended from the clouds to alight in the land of the Buddha. As we are rounding the corner from our guesthouse in Kathmandu and on the way to Bouda, the stupa reveals itself, golden eyes in a dharmakaya blue sky, brilliant white vault of purity. Me and Ela let out a spontaneous squeal of utter delight, and then simultaneously burst into tears! Uncontrollable wracking sobs I have no idea who I am or what’s going on…
