Join us for an afternoon as we mindfully pause and investigate the brain. What is the brain’s job? What happens when our brain goes into fight-flight mode? And how do we calm down when things get hard? This is our topic of investigation and we’ll see how we can apply various mindful tools to help our brain when the going gets tough!
This month we will be exploring how to bring out what is true and unique in each of us and offer that to the world. Often there is pressure to be like “someone else” or “the cool kid in the class” but we need to appreciate our uniqueness and individuality and bring that to our families and community. The afternoon will culminate in painting the tsa-tsa statues of Lama Tsong Khapa. BYO comfortable smock or old clothes, snacks and water bottle.
The last event for Mindful Families for 2018, a picnic in Orleigh Park. Expect an afternoon of casual socialising and a chance to enjoy the company of our Mindful Families community. A great park for the kiddies to simply be and play. Please bring a plate to share and water, hats & sunscreen. We look forward to seeing you there.
All families are warmly invited to our re-designed Mindful Families event. This year the kids will create their own ‘stained glass’ style Buddha window silhouette! So come along and enjoy the elephant loaded with offerings, a short meditation, animated DVD about Buddha’s life, bathing the baby Buddha, singing happy birthday and sharing cake afterwards.
Children are strongly influenced by Superheroes & Heroines, so we want to use this opportunity to really dig into what exactly ‘Supers’ are all about and what values they represent. In this family mindfulness session, we will brainstorm our own superpowers such as patience, courage and focus. We will also be designing our own super costume to represent the family values we hold dear and use everyday. Join the family fun with these special activities for children 4-8 years and their parents.
Bring your friends and family and discover your local Buddhist community. Highlights include: public talk with the Tibetan Lama; guided tours, free Buddhist books; mindfulness meditations; family activities and prayer flag making; question & answer, and blessings with holy Buddhist relics. Spicy chai tea served free all day. Tashi Delek – see you there!
