Ven. Robina Courtin
Ven. Robina Courtin has been a nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition for over 40 years. Ven. Robina was born in Melbourne and raised a Catholic. In the mid-70’s she attended a course in QLD given by Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. She then went to Katmandu, Nepal, and 18 months later became ordained as a Buddhist nun at Kopan Monastery.
Ven. Robina’s life and work have been nothing short of remarkable, including involvement in the radical left and feminist politics, martial arts training, and serving as a personal bodyguard to HH the Dalai Lama. She founded the Liberation Prison Project in the United States, which takes care of the spiritual needs of more than 1,000 prisoners, including many on death row, in 250 institutions.
She is an extraordinary woman with boundless energy and charisma and her style when teaching the Dharma is sparklingly clear, direct and compassionate. Robina leaves an indelible impression on everyone she meets.
Introducing basic Buddhist philosophy in a practical way, Ven. Robina addresses crowds both large and small, going one-to-one with any Dharma student who needs her.
