(IN-PERSON) This relaxed, artistโ€‘led session brings together concentration, mindfulness, and simple arts and crafts in a supportive, lowโ€‘pressure setting. It is a mindful crafting session, not a formal meditation class, offering a calm, focused space to slow down, create with intention, and enjoy quiet company. Open to both Buddhists and nonโ€‘Buddhists, the afternoon is especially welcoming for those seeking relaxation, meaning, and a gentle way to unwind without expectations.

The session is led by LTCโ€™s Resident Artist, Helene Holland, who introduces creative activity as a way to cultivate attention, steadiness, and ease through art. No artistic experience is needed.

What to Expect
Helene will guide participants in the mindful painting of tsa-tsasโ€”small, flatโ€‘backed Buddha statues traditionally created as a contemplative and devotional practice. All materials are provided, and youโ€™ll be supported to work at your own pace in a quiet, encouraging environment. All skill levels are welcome to join this artist-led journey of self-discovery. Along the way, Helene will share:

  • Traditional Tibetan symbolism
  • Artist tips and gentle guidance (entirely optional)
  • The meaning and intention behind โ€œoffering paintโ€ as a focused, calming activity

Painting tsa tsas is traditionally dedicated to five intentions: the holy gurus, oneโ€™s parents, the sick and vulnerable, those who have died, and oneโ€™s own inner growth. Participation in this aspect is optional and explained in an accessible, nonโ€‘dogmatic way.

When finished, you may take your tsa tsa home or choose to leave it as part of the libraryโ€™s display wall.

Bring Your Own Project
If you prefer, youโ€™re warmly welcome to bring a personal, quiet creative projectโ€”such as crochet, drawing, embroidery, or Dharma artโ€”and work alongside others in a shared, mindful atmosphere.

Why Attend
This session is about gentle focus, creativity, and rest rather than formal practice or performance. Painting, colouring, and handwork naturally support a state of flow, making this an ideal activity for introverts and anyone seeking calm connection without small talk or pressure.

Come as you are, create in your own way, and enjoy a peaceful afternoon of mindful making.

โ€œIf you look at a statue or painting of the Buddha, just in that moment you create far greater merit than making offering of 100 divine foods (nectar) and 100 divine dresses (the most precious and expensive dressesโ€”all the human beingsโ€™ wealth is not enough to buy even one devaโ€™s realm necklace) to solitary realizer arhats equalling the number of dust particles of the universe every day for 100 eons.โ€
