SUMMARY:Cultivating Lasting Happiness - What Buddhism and Science Have t
 o Say About It
DESCRIPTION:(HYBRID) What is it that we all are pursuing? Do we succeed
in it? Should we explore more carefully and wisely how to fulfill our de
epest yearnings? How could we contribute to others’ happiness as well?
\n\n\n\nWe will explore such questions from an experiential point of vie
w\, using both scientific and Buddhist knowledge of the mind and meditat
ion\, in a journey that may translate into increasing lasting happiness
 and a positive impact on oneself\, others\, and the world. \n\n\n\nThe c
ourse “Cultivating lasting happiness: What Buddhism and science have t
o say about it” focuses on an exploration of what leads to dissatisfac
tion and suffering\, and what contributes to happiness for oneself and o
thers. \n\n\n\nThe fundamentals of meditation and mind training are intr
oduced\, especially in the areas of establishing a meaningful direction
in life\, balancing the mind with equanimity and a caring attitude\, and
nurturing warmheartedness and wisdom drawn from the Buddhist tradition.
\n\n\n\nIt is complemented by references to current scientific understa
nding on our nervous system\, values\, subjective well-being\, neuroplas
ticity and altruism.\n\n\n\nThe Journey\n\n\n\n“Cultivating Lasting Ha
ppiness” gradually unfolds as a 6-week journey along different topics:
\n\n\n\n\nA universal need explores the common ground that we all want t
o find happiness and overcome suffering\, and presents initial technique
s to balance body and mind.\n\n\n\nAre we pursuing happiness in the best
way? is an initial exploration of the Buddhist Four Truths and a sugges
tion to probe into common ways to pursue happiness—are we succeeding?\
n\n\n\nFollowing the scent of lasting happiness encourages us to establi
sh meaningful directions and to find ways to cultivate lasting happiness
and activate our potential.\n\n\n\nMeditation and mind training present
s tools for doing so.\n\n\n\nWisdom and warmheartedness as a source of l
asting happiness presents tools to cultivate the fundamental qualities o
f warmheartedness and wisdom and invites us to explore their contributio
n to our own and others’ happiness.\n\n\n\nEnhancing wisdom and warmhe
artedness further explores these fundamental qualities\n\n\n\n\nWhile th
e classes in this course are sequential\, each class is a stand-alone to
pic\, so you are most welcome to drop in at any time\, even if the cours
e has already started.\n\n\n\nWhat will I learn?\n\n\n\nThe course is in
tended to address the needs of modern students\, with a fact-based appro
ach to the study of the mind and meditation. It is ideally suited for th
ose:\n\n\n\n\nOpen to learning about Buddhism with an emphasis on the pr
actical integration of its teachings in daily life\n\n\n\nInterested in
the dialogue between the Buddhist and scientific perspectives when appli
ed to the fields of study on meditation\, the mind\, compassion\, or wel
l-being\, amongst others\n\n\n\nKeen on developing a repertoire of tools
\, including meditation and contemplation techniques\, to contribute to
living meaningful\, beneficial\, and happier lives\n\n\n\n\nIt is design
ed for people who may or may not have experience with secular or other f
 orms of meditation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://youtu.be/YSUbI4cVf5Y?si=c7eKxWI
