(HYBRID) What if we could develop our life skills not just for career success or family harmony, but for complete liberation from the ups and downs of daily existence, and liberation from all suffering and problems? The Buddha taught three essential skills for life and enlightenment โ€“ the Three Higher Trainings in ethics (recognising our interdependence), concentration (undistracted focus on an object of virtue) and wisdom (being in step with reality).

These three essential skills are not just to make our day-to-day life easier, they have the potential to lead us to complete liberation from the cycle of dissatisfaction and disappointment known as samsara. Training in these three gives us the skills for a better life now, and more importantly โ€“ towards a complete liberation from problems and suffering altogether!

  • Ethics is focused on the body, the foundation and support for everything we do. We literally need to embody our ethics, develop them as our core strength, reliable and incorruptible.
  • Concentration is like two strong arms holding the topic, the two limbs of love and interconnectedness. We need concentration to see an idea through, and presence of mind to remember our wisdom when we need it!
  • Wisdom is like a very sharp axe to cut through confusion. With the clarity of wisdom we can overcome our problems and sever the root of suffering!

We invite you to join this one-off welcome class for those new to LTC or to Buddhism, and discover the three essential skills we all need to achieve success in life, harmony in relationships, and freedom from emotional turmoil.

โ€œWe need our journey through life to be stable and true, and ethics is the ground or foundation upon everything can be built. Concentration can only develop if we are free of guilt, distraction and disturbing emotions. Wisdom can only arise on the basis on concentration.โ€
