About Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a slower, deeper and more passive approach to the yoga practice. The postures, mostly floor based, are held for extended periods of time, often 3-5 minutes in duration. Each posture invites you to move consciously toward exploring your edge. Yin encourages gentle meditative breathing, and awareness to the sensations that arise in the body.
Yin postures target the deeper tissues of the body, including the joints, the connective tissue, and the fascia, in order to create flexibility within the muscular skeletal system. Energetically it seeks to free up internal blockages through meridian/nadi channels to enable chi/prana, the life force energy to flow freely throughout the body.
Yin yoga can be deeply nourishing, particularly on the nervous system, as well as challenging to the body and mind. It offers the perfect balance to yang yoga practice.
