Navigating Buddhism & Science: Journey or Destination?

Hybrid Hybrid Events

Tuesday 26 September @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm

What can 2,500 years of striving for Buddhist enlightenment tell us about mental health in the 21st century? Is there a place for science in the path to enlightenment and a place for Buddhist views in the scientific attempt to understand the mind?

Is happiness and wellbeing a journey or destination?

Corey’s back for a 9-week series to talk more about the ongoing conversation between Buddhism and science.

This is a unique exploration how Buddhist and scientific approaches could steer humanity to be happy and well. We’ll go on a thorough exploration of mindfulness, meditation, mental health, kindness, compassion, consciousness and more in an honest look at how the two approaches are collaborating. An inspiring and honest look at the potential, the pitfalls, the obstacles, successes, what’s been done and how the field can be of the most impact to improve the daily life of us all on planet Earth.

Learn why Buddhists still get angry, why psychology can’t cure anxiety or depression, and how to strive for long term mental health while still reaping short-term rewards.

This is for you if you are:
– Interested in meditation but don’t want to be Buddhist
– A Buddhist who wants more tangible effects from your practice
– Interested in research and/or spiritual traditions
– Hopeful of a better future for our planet.

Comfortable in a research lab or mountain monastery, Corey’s work and research sits at the intersection of scientific and contemplative tradition. As always, Corey loves questions, comments, discussions and diversions along the way. So join us online or in-person for a series like no other.

“Buddhism and science are not conflicting perspectives on the world, but rather differing approaches to the same end: seeking the truth. In Buddhist training, it is essential to investigate reality, and science offers its own ways to go about this investigation. While the purposes of science may differ from those of Buddhism, both ways of searching for truth expand our knowledge and understanding.”
