SANGHATA SUTRA-athon for Harmony

Virtual Events Virtual Events

Wednesday, 14 July 2021 @ 10:30 am 12:00 pm

Online community recitation of the Sanghata Sutra, to purify one’s speech, harmonise the mind, and bring the blessings of the Buddhas directly into your own environment.

We will each have a certain amount of pages to read, that we will do simultaneously together online. In this way we can complete the quite lengthy sutra quite quickly! We will set our motivation together at the beginning, and at the end you can make individual dedications.

This sutra has a powerful effect to create harmony and pacify harm to the climate and environment. Today is a special Buddha Day so all actions done with a positive motivation have incredible power to bring far-reaching and beneficial results.

The Sanghata Sutra promises to transform all those who read it. Like other sutras, the Sanghata Sutra records an oral teaching given by the Buddha, but unlike other sutras, Buddha explains that he himself had heard this sutra from a previous buddha. The Sanghata Sutra is a text that talks about itself by name and talks in great detail about what it will do to anyone who encounters it. It is also an extraordinary literary adventure, full of stories of death, discovery and transformations.

The recitation will be especially dedicated to the health and long life of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, along with all the monks and nuns at Kopan. By reciting we remove obstacles and gather the inner energy and resources to be able to continue to receive teachings from our precious guru.

The speech of buddhas is profound; Sarva-shúra, listen to me: The Sanghāta Sutra is a teacher, manifesting in the form of a sage. The Sangháta manifests, out of kindness, even bodies of buddhas. As many grains of sand as the Ganges holds, in just that many forms it teaches. It teaches in the form of a Buddha. It teaches even the essence of Dharma. Who wishes to see a Buddha, Sanghāta is equivalent to a Buddha. Wherever the Sanghāta is, always there the Buddha is.

LTC Sangha Fund

Our wonderful LTC nuns look after us so well, we would like to look after them! Part of our practice as Buddhists is to make offerings to the Sangha Jewel, and the LTC Sangha Fund is on way we can fulfil our refuge commitments and also show our gratitude. The fund will help our nuns to cover the transport and accommodation costs of retreats, purchase Dharma books, get their car serviced, or help meet unexpected medical bills.
