Renunciation – Embracing Freedom in Daily Practice
Monday 22 May @ 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Just because we know something is good or bad for us, it doesn’t mean we always do it or avoid it easily. For example, we know smoking is bad but some people still do it. And we know being patient and kind is good, but we still get angry when someone cuts us off in traffic. To get better at being patient and kind, we need to learn special techniques that can help us change our bad habits.
In the next four weeks, we will practice techniques based on trainings within the three scopes that will help us stay calm and happy even when things around us are upsetting.
The Buddhist spiritual journey starts with a desire for freedom from suffering, but this wish is not enough – we must cultivate an unwavering determination to free ourselves of the very causes of our problems – just as we must seek to heal the disease, not just mask the symptoms.
In this series we will look at the topic through the lens of short teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, or Lama Yeshe. Eddie will also incorporate western viewpoints, and lead us in checking with our own experience with open questioning and discussion.
“Every second of this human life gives us the freedom to choose between hell and enlightenment, samsara and liberation.“
– Lama Zopa Rinpoche
“No desire means no emotional pain of attachment, anger and jealousy. There is peace, openness and space for genuine love and compassion to arise.“
– Lama Zopa Rinpoche
