Prayers to protect from obstacles on a spiritual path. The protectors are wrathful emanations of the Buddha, that terrify our distorted attitudes and free us from the bondage of ego.

Special chants and ritual praises to strengthen our connection to the Dharma and dispel interferences, distractions and obstacles. These prayers are a skilful way to pacify the inner demons of doubt and confusion. We chant the prayers in Tibetan, and practice using the traditional instruments as shown to us by Geshe Zopa.

The protectors appear terrifying to the ego, but are in fact manifestations of the Buddha. Just like destructive actions need a firm hand to protect both the perpetrator and society, so too the protectors terrify our disturbing emotions and distorted attitudes, to protect us from the prison of self-cherishing and self-grasping.

This practice is traditionally done on Tibetan 29th which is Protector Day, and most suited for those with a a background in tantric practice, but open to all.

Practice along:
This means you can play the puja at home! Miffi has pre-recorded this practice so you can offer it at home on the appropriate day, push pause to reflect on the meaning, and take time with your own dedications.

You will need to download the text, set up some offerings, and your ritual implements (if you have them). You may also want to have a tea or beverage ready to offer when making your own dedications.

For the tea offering, place a cup or small bowl with a few rice grains in it, into a larger bowl. During the prayers pour strong, black tea into the inner bowl so that it overflows.

(watch at a time to suit you)

Donations made on Buddhist Holy Days are especially powerful. Your contribution here will go towards puja offerings, altar offerings, holy objects, and commissioned statues for LTC. (The Zoom link for hybrid or online events will appear at the top of this page 15 minutes before the start.)

*If you can’t make it to puja but still want to be involved, please email us in your dedication so we can read it at the puja.
