LOSAR (Tibetan New Year) Heruka Vajrasattva Tsog

Virtual Events Virtual Events

Thursday 3 March @ 6:30 pm 8:30 pm

See in the new year by making mountains of merit, offerings to all the Buddhas, and saying a firm goodbye to negativities of the past year.

COME AS A HUMAN LIGHT BULB! Drape yourself in fairy lights and become a living light offering!

Losar (Tibetan New Year) is one of the most auspicious and joyous days of the Buddhist calendar. In this short ceremony everyone will have the opportunity to make special Losar New Year dedications and aspirational prayers.

We chant the beautiful Tibetan tunes, make offerings and chant the 100 Vajrasattva mantra – a profound method to meditate on emptiness, the ultimate purification. Tsog means “gathering”. By gathering together to offer tsog we are making space. When the right space opens, realisations come as if magnetically attracted. Even if some of us are gathering across the digital divide, in our heart we gather together the things we’re offering, and offer across space and across time.

Today we also celebrate the anniversary of Lama Thubten Yeshe, who together with Lama Zopa Rinpoche, founded the FPMT in the 1970’s. This organisation, of which Langri Tangpa Centre is a proud affiliate, has grown to become a world-wide network of over 140 centres, hospices, publishing houses, animal sanctuaries and many other projects, around the world. Lama Yeshe passed away on Losar in 1984, and this is our opportunity to strengthen our connection with his teachings and all the amazing activities of the FPMT. The Vajrasattva Tsog was one of his favourite practices.

Donate to the offerings:
All donations today go towards our Lama Yeshe statue that we have commissioned to be built for us. If you cannot make it to the puja, we invite you to donate online to our Lama Yeshe Statue Project. Make a contribution on someone’s behalf, with an option to send an eCard or tribute to them if you wish.

Lama Yeshe Statue

$13,114 of $22,000 raised

Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s advice to us to complete the statues needed for our altar, was to install a 2ft statue of Lama Yeshe as the centre-piece in the right side cabinet.

A statue of Lama this size does not yet exist! So we have commissioned renowned FPMT sculptor Denise Griffin to hand-sculpt one for us, and we then would like to offer the mould to the FPMT for use by other centres.

To ensure the success of the statue we need to do fundraising AND merit-raising activities!

Fundraising includes one-off donations from students, funds from our Holy Object Fund, and proceeds from special sutra recitations.

Merit-raising activities include special recitations of the Sutra of Golden Light, dedicated to the health and long-life of our extra-ordinary statue sculptor Denise Griffin.

The artistic process has taken several years but is nearing completion! Then the statue needs to be checked by Lama Zopa Rinpoche (with possible revisions after that). And finally the statue needs to be painted and the eyes opened, shipped across the seas, installed and consecrated at LTC!
