Monday 25 March @ 11:00 am 12:30 pm

In a world often negatively impacted by conflict, stress, and self-centered pursuits, the cultivation of loving-kindness stands as a transformative antidote. Loving-kindness, or “Metta” in Pali and “Maitri” in Sanskrit, is not merely an emotional state but a profound spiritual practice that serves as a cornerstone in Tibetan Buddhist philosophy.

This in-depth short course aims to elucidate the significance of loving-kindness and provide practical methods for cultivating this sublime quality in one’s mind.

In this course, participants will:
– Gain a deep understanding of what loving-kindness means from the Tibetan Buddhist perspective, including its role in the path to enlightenment.
– Learn the psychological and spiritual benefits of cultivating loving-kindness, both for oneself and for others.
– Engage in contemplations specifically designed to nurture loving-kindness, transforming it from a conceptual understanding to a lived experience.

Whether you are new to Tibetan Buddhism or a seasoned practitioner, this course offers a comprehensive guide to understanding and practicing loving-kindness as a means to spiritual awakening and genuine well-being.

In this series we will look at the topic through the lens of short teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, or Lama Yeshe. Eddie will also incorporate western viewpoints, and lead us in checking with our own experience with open questioning and discussion.

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.”

– HH the Dalai Lama

Be wise. Treat yourself, your mind, sympathetically, with loving kindness. If you are gentle with yourself, you will become gentle with others.

– Lama Thubten Yeshe
