Guru Rinpoche Protector Prayers
Friday 29 November @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Among followers of Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) is revered as an omnipresent deity or the second Buddha, and his teachings are considered sublime. Prayers to Guru Rinpoche are considered to be increasingly potent during these times of war and anxiety, and he is often invoked for protection and the overcoming of obstacles.
Join us on Protector Day for Guru Rinpoche Prayers as well as our usual praises to Mahakala, Palden Lhamo, and Hayagriva. These protectors appear terrifying to the ego, but are in fact manifestations of the Buddha. Just like destructive actions need a firm hand to protect both the perpetrator and society, so too the protectors terrify our disturbing emotions and distorted attitudes, to protect us from the prison of self-cherishing and self-grasping.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche strongly advised Guru Rinpoche practice and dedicated efforts towards the goal of building as many large statues of Padmasambhava around the world as possible, in order to create the cause for peace for all beings.
“My father is wisdom and my mother is voidness.
– Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava)
My country is the country of Dharma.
I am of no caste and no creed.
I am sustained by perplexity; and I am here to destroy lust, anger and sloth.”
