One of the holiest days of the Buddhist calendar – the anniversary of Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s first teaching – First Wheel-Turning Day. It is recounted that for seven weeks after his enlightenment, the Buddha did not teach. After this period, Indra and Brahma offered a dharmachakra and a conch shell and requested Guru Shakyamuni Buddha to teach. Accepting, Guru Shakyamuni Buddha then turned the Wheel of Dharma for the first time at Sarnath, by teaching the four noble truths.
As one of the holiest days of the Buddhist calendar, merits created today are magnified many millions of times. Join in the community recitation of the Heart Sutra and the Diamond Cutter Sutra, dedicated to the health and long life of Lama Zopa Rinpoche. We will also make personal and community dedications. All welcome, no need to book, just come along!
The recitation helps to purify one’s speech, calm and harmonise the mind, and bring the blessings of all the wisdom of the Buddhas. By reciting we remove obstacles and gather the energy and resources to be able to take teachings in person from our precious guru.
Can’t make it to this event, but still want to be involved? As today also celebrates International Sangha Day, why not make a donation to our wonderful LTC nuns? You can email us your dedications to be read them during the event.
