Drawing on Buddhist psychology, we examine how to bring forth our innate good qualities, and how to overcome the distraction, anxiety and depression that hampers our life and happiness. Unhappiness to be a symptom of disturbing emotions; if we can overcome our destructive emotions and habits, we will naturally become more peaceful, and our relationships with others will naturally become happy and more constructive. There is no need to be a Buddhist to benefit from these methods – they have a universal application and can be used by anyone, regardless of belief! Topics include:
- How to overcome a limited self-image and develop self-esteem that is authentic, lasting, and stable
- What holds you back in achieving your innate human potential
- How to become grounded in your own positive qualities
Session 1: Happiness & goal setting. What is happiness? Three types: hedonic, eudemonic, and optimal flourishing. Buddhist goal setting for immediate and long-term happiness, that reflects your own personal values.
Session 2: Overcoming distractions. What distracts us from our goals? Eight worldly concerns and how to overcome them. By doing this we can find an authentic and meaningful direction in life.
Session 3: Character development. Based on an innate sense of ethical conduct and fairness, learn to develop your concentration and focus, and to see through the stress and spin with wisdom. We end with a meditation practice on stepping into your best self.
