"Offering the burning puja to Dorje Khadro is one of the very profound practices for purification, regarded as a golden Dharma, a precious one. It is Lama Tsongkhapa's heart practice, and his followers practice it knowing it to be extremely beneficial." -- Lama Zopa Rinpoche
We offer this ceremony annually. It is based on a traditional burning ceremony, and incorporates the psychologically powerfull Four Opponent Powers of Purification. We write our illnessses, disturbing emotions, fears and anxieties on a piece of paper, and offer them to Dorje Khadro, the Buddha of the fire and purification. He consumes them all, transforming them into bliss and emptiness.
Depending on fire restrictions on the day, we will offer to an actual fire or to a symbolic fire. If there are fire restrictions we will request the nun to burn the paper at Chenrezig Institute on a more suitable day!
According to Buddhism, the world in which we live, and all that happens to us, is a result of our past actions. Past harmful actions create unhappy results and skilful actions create happy results. One way to increase our potential to experience happiness, to accumulate extensive positive potential, and to purify obstacles in our lives is to make offerings to the different manifestations of enlightened beings.
Performing a puja is definitely not being saved by ritual! On the contrary, by generating a sincere virtuous motivation while making extensive prayers and offerings, unfavourable circumstances that bring problems can be changed. It is not the ritual itself that clears obstacles so much as the sincere virtuous motivation of the participant.
