Medicine Buddha Puja

Praises and offerings to Medicine Buddha, the Great physician who can liberate us from all the sufferings of cyclic existence. This popular puja is sung entirely in English, and enjoyed Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. If you have never been to a puja before, this is the one to start with!

This very popular puja is beneficial for both Buddhists and non-Buddhist alike. Just hearing the names of the Medicine Buddhas, and the many ways they promised to help beings, can remove external obstacles and internal problems. We say prayers and mantras for sick friends and relatives, and for the success of all our positive endeavours. You can bring your medicines and put them on the altar to be blessed, and then take them home again. All welcome – especially beginners! No need to book, just come along.

We make special prayers to each of the seven healing Buddhas and read their specific abilities and promises to help beings. We also say prayers and mantras for sick friends and relatives, and everyone has the opportunity to make individual dedications while we offer and drink the tea. Don’t forget to bring your medicines and put them on the altar to be blessed, and then take them home again.

The Healing Buddha, has promised to help all those who are sick and dying. He is depicted holding a bowl continuing the five kinds of medicines. This puja helps to clear and avert obstacles due to sickness and diseases. The blessings from Medicine Buddha prevents one from falling into the lower states of rebirth. Those already in a lower state of rebirth will be quickly liberated and will take rebirth in a precious human body. The Medicine Buddha puja is specifically recommended by our teacher Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche as the Medicine Buddha is particularly effective during these difficult times.
