Guru Puja

An offering ceremony to make the mountains of merit needed to sustain a strong relationship with the guru. This is a traditional devotional practice of the Gelug tradition, and a commitment for those with specific HYT initiation. We offer the puja in English, so people new to the practice can learn the meaning of the prayers.

The ceremony includes re-taking ones vows, chai tea, individual dedications, and Tsog offering. This is a special offering to the gurus, made on the Tibetan 10th and 25th each month. It is crucial for creating the merit we need to sustain a fruitful Dharma practice. Most suited for in-depth practitioners with existing practice commitments, but open to all. No need to book, just come along.

This practice is usually done twice a month on the Tibetan 10th and 25th (tsog days). Here at LTC we do the puja when the Tibetan days falls during a weekend. In our tradition the reliance on our spiritual teacher is the foundation of every spiritual progress. In the practice we pay homage to our teacher and try to identify with his qualities. This practice contains the whole path to enlightenment and performing this puja creates a powerful potential of spiritual growth for the participants and the sponsor.

Everyone is welcome to come to the puja – it has often been a social event and community celebration. Although the practice is aimed at people with an HYT initiation (with a commitment to learn and perform this practice), it is open to all. We offer tsog, chai tea, and make special dedications during the puja.
